Gone are the days when creating AI-generated images with Midjourney required navigating the sometimes cumbersome Discord platform. As of Wednesday, Midjourney has launched a dedicated, free-to-use website for its AI image generation service, announced by CEO David Holz via a Discord message. Now, anyone can access the website and create up to 25 images as part of a free trial.
Previously, Midjourney’s image creation was restricted to those willing to engage with text-based prompts on Discord, a process often seen as clumsy and frustrating. To address this, Midjourney introduced a dedicated website late last year, initially limiting access to users who had already created at least 10,000 images via Discord. With the latest update, the platform is now open to all, promising a more user-friendly and smoother experience for everyone.
Getting started on the website is straightforward. Users can sign in using either their Google or Discord accounts. For those who have previously created images on Discord, merging their existing Discord account with Google saves their image history, allowing seamless access across both platforms.
The website’s interface is intuitive, guiding users from image generation to editing. The Explore section offers a glimpse into a variety of images created by others, while the Create section provides a brief, helpful video tutorial on how to get started with Midjourney. Users can start generating images by simply typing their prompt into a designated field, and Midjourney will produce four images based on the input. Each image can then be refined using various actions like ‘Strong’ or ‘Subtle’, with options to zoom, pan, and upscale.
A standout feature of the new website is its advanced image editor. It enables users to revise prompts, alter specific areas of an image, change aspect ratios, adjust scale, and even incorporate new elements into their creations. The Organize section helps users keep track of all the images they’ve generated, with options to open, tweak, copy, and download each image.
Additionally, the platform includes chat rooms where users can share their creations, view images from others, and exchange tips and strategies with fellow Midjourney enthusiasts.
After exhausting the 25 free image generation limit, users must choose from one of Midjourney’s paid plans: Basic, Standard, Pro, and Mega, each offering different pricing and image quotas.
This move by Midjourney not only democratizes access to its advanced AI image generation technology but also streamlines the entire experience, making it more accessible and enjoyable for all users.
