AAEON has taken the wraps off its latest innovation, introducing the PICO-IMX8PL Pico-ITX single-board computer (SBC) and the SRG-IMX8PL mini-PC, both crafted around the formidable NXP i.MX 8M Plus Edge AI processor. These devices are meticulously designed to serve a range of industrial AIoT and IoT applications, ensuring dependable performance in harsh environments.

The PICO-IMX8PL SBC offers an array of connectivity options including dual Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, 4G LTE, CAN-FD, audio interfaces, and an LVDS display port. Support for widely adopted industrial protocols like Modbus, MQTT, and OPCUA further enhances its integration capability.

On the other hand, the SRG-IMX8PL mini-PC, while sacrificing several I/O interfaces and the LVDS display output, gains in versatility with capabilities for wall or DIN rail mounting. Both devices are engineered with fanless designs and compact form factors, boasting wide operating temperature ranges, which make them ideal for deployment in critical industrial automation, transportation, and digital signage projects.

The specifications of the AAEON PICO-IMX8PL and SRG-IMX8PL are robust. They feature an NXP i.MX 8M Plus AI SoC, equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor running at up to 1.6 GHz, complemented by an ARM Cortex-M7 real-time core at 800 MHz. The GPU ensemble includes a Vivante GC7000UL 3D GPU and GC520L 2D GPU, while the video processing unit supports 720p60 H.265/H.264 video decoding and encoding. Additionally, an optional AI accelerator provides a powerful 2.3 TOPS Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Memory configurations can reach up to 4GB of LPDDR4 (expandable to 8GB upon request), and storage variants include 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB eMMC flash options alongside a MicroSD card socket. Display interfaces are versatile with an HDMI 2.0 port and LVDS (the latter not available on the mini-PC). Audio options include line-in and line-out functionalities, with variances between the SBC and mini-PC configurations.

In terms of networking, both devices are equipped with dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, an M.2 2230 E-Key slot for an optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module, and optional cellular connectivity through a full-size Mini Card. Additional I/O includes two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a USB 2.0 port (excluding the mini-PC), a micro USB port for debugging, and dual RS-232/422/485 Phoenix connectors.

Security is bolstered by an optional TPM 2.0 module, while expansion capabilities are augmented with M.2 and GPIO headers. A myriad of other features such as watchdog timers and programmable LEDs enhance functionality further.

The PICO-IMX8PL measures 100 x 72 mm and weighs 80 grams, whereas the SRG-IMX8PL mini-PC stands at 108 x 79.5 x 43 mm with a weight of 160 grams. Both devices are capable of operating within a temperature range of -40°C to 80°C, with some variants of the SBC capable of operating from 0°C to 60°C.

Certified by CE/FCC, these innovations support operating systems including Debian 11, Android 13, Windows 10 IoT, and Yocto 4.0. The mini-PC also offers flexible mounting options compatible with both wall mounts and optional DIN rails.

Pricing for the PICO-IMX8PL starts at $215 for the 2GB variant and $243 for the 4GB version. The SRG-IMX8PL mini-PC is available at $300 for the 2GB model, with the 4GB variant priced at $331. Both products are available for purchase directly from AAEON’s website.

AAEON’s latest offerings underscore their commitment to delivering cutting-edge, reliable solutions for the evolving landscape of industrial AI and IoT applications.
