Next week, the tech world converges in Las Vegas for CES 2026, where LG Electronics plans to pull back the curtain on its latest innovation in home robotics— the LG CLOiD humanoid robot. Since the unveiling is closely guarded, full-body images remain under wraps. However, the company has divulged enough details to ignite curiosity, noting the robot’s humanoid form equipped with dual seven-degree-of-freedom arms and dexterous five-fingered hands.

This new addition to the LG CLOi series, known for its wheeled service robots employed across retail, dining, and hospitality sectors, carries a distinct edge. The “D” in CLOiD stands for “Dynamic,” hinting at the humanoid capabilities suggested by the “-oid” suffix. Yet, it seems likely that, consistent with its predecessors, CLOiD will be mobilized on wheels rather than legs, potentially categorizing it as a mobile manipulator.

LG has ambitious plans for CLOiD, designing it to tackle a variety of indoor household tasks. Although the exact capabilities remain under wraps until its launch, LG promises that the robot will integrate advanced technology. A sophisticated chipset will enable expressive communication, intuitive voice interaction, and smart navigation, made possible by an ensemble of displays, speakers, cameras, and sensors.

Positioned as a domestic assistant, CLOiD carries the promotional tagline “Zero-Labor Home Makes Quality Time.” This messaging underscores LG’s commitment to leveraging technology to alleviate household burdens, effectively giving users the freedom to emphasize important personal connections and experiences.

While LG’s robust global presence and manufacturing expertise offers an advantage in the realm of robotic commercialization, like many of its competitors, CLOiD may face challenges due to a functionality gap prevalent in AI models for home-centered humanoid robots.

To spearhead its ambitions in robotics, LG is adopting a dual strategy focused on vigorous R&D and targeted investments. This includes the establishment of an HS Robotics Lab within its Home Appliance Solution Company, aimed at fostering technological innovation and differentiation.

Domestically, LG’s partnerships with KIST and ROBOTIS, in which it maintains a 7.36% stake, are instrumental in its development endeavors. Furthermore, LG has extended its global reach by investing in Figure AI, Agibot, and Dyna Robotics, concentrating on enhancing robot safety and foundational AI advancement.

For those attending CES, LG’s cutting-edge robotic innovations, including the eagerly anticipated CLOiD, will be showcased at Booth 15004 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. As anticipation builds, it is clear that LG is not just participating in the robotics discourse but is actively shaping the future of automated home living.
