Sun Singapore is set to revolutionize urban parking with its latest AI-based smart parking system, powered by AMD technology. Unlike traditional systems that struggle with accuracy, this new solution promises precise vehicle license plate recognition and introduces sophisticated features such as parking spot vacancy detection, lane congestion monitoring, accident detection, and enforcement of parking regulations.
This groundbreaking system is designed to enhance Singapore’s existing electronic parking networks, which have long relied on outdated infrastructures devoid of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The integration of AI not only expands the range of functionalities but also generates valuable data that can be utilized for advanced reporting by car park operators.
At the heart of this innovation is PlanetSpark’s EdgeAI Box X7, which operates on FPGA-based AMD Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs. Collaboration with Aupera Technologies led to the development of specialized FPGA firmware and AI vision solutions, ensuring highly accurate license plate recognition. These edge devices, fortified with FPGAs, boast a durable lifecycle and the flexibility to adapt to evolving AI models, algorithms, and industrial standards.
“The AMD FPGA-based edge AI solution was optimal for us due to its durability, low latency, flexibility, and the capacity to manage complex calculations involving massive datasets. This adaptability allows us to roll out new applications that enhance car parking system features and services for our customers,” said Eddie Ng, Senior Sales Manager at Sun Singapore.
Phuay Li Ying, Managing Director of PlanetSpark, expressed the company’s dedication to sustainable innovation. “With our Green & Agile solutions, we’re delivering unparalleled energy efficiency and edge performance. We’re thrilled to partner with AMD on this project, which marks a significant advancement in the Smart Parking sector.”
Chetan Khona, Senior Director of Industrial, Vision, Healthcare, and Sciences Markets at AMD, further highlighted the impact of the collaboration. “Sun Singapore and PlanetSpark exemplify the transformative power of AMD’s Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC technology. By leveraging sensor fusion applications, customers can utilize AI to enhance various processes, revolutionizing smart city initiatives, manufacturing, robotics, and beyond.”
This new AI-powered parking system is more than a technological advancement; it represents a significant leap towards smarter, more efficient urban living in Singapore and potentially sets a precedent for future global developments in smart city infrastructure.
